Olatz Zugasti (Hernani; 1965), both as a creator of melodies and songs and when she sings themes of other authors, is always very pleasing due to the brilliance of her fantastic, calm, honest and accessible worlds.
Olatz Zugasti surprises us again with her new record "Elearen lainoa". Her previous record "Bulun-bulunka" left a sweet and peaceful taste, transported us to a special dream where tenderness and gentleness in the treatment combine with the sobriety and beauty of the themes themselves.
"Elearen lainoa" is above all a compendium of good songs, a rainbow where ochre, green, blue and yellow colour a very personal and appealing sky. 12 new songs that shake the heart with extreme skill and sensibility, combining themes with Nordic features, pleasant pop ballads and powerful folk songs in a very careful performance. To elaborate the homogeneous and carefully spun artistic production of this record Olatz Zugasti has been supported by the broad and proven experience of Mikel Fernández and Angel Unzu. Between all of them they have shaped a record which is different both in its composition and its production. They have taken songs in their simplest format and, with few elements, turned them into immense seas, exuberant forests, endless deserts, water drops.
"Elearen lainoa" sings the praises of love with intensity, melancholy and honesty, and has a friendly look at the place where love nests, that is, at our eyes. The quality and sensibility of the lyrics (by Henriette Aire, Itxaro Borda and Olatz Zugasti herself) round off a meticulous and suggestive work that tells us about memories, caresses, desire, the wind, the soul, loneliness, strong feelings, ourselves.
Good songs are made of a universal and lasting fibre, they are a spider´s web of feelings that traps many beings together. Those songs that we love and we get hooked on remind us of a part of ourselves that is linked to love, the most universal feeling, that by which we are born and that by which we live and often die. Love is undoubtedly the quintessential subject of music.
