It's being called "triki pop" (after the accordion used in much of the music, the trikitixa, played by Maider Zabalegi and the accompanying panderoa of Alaitz Telletxea), and these two women and their ensemble are the youthful embodiment of the music. It's tinged with Celtic folk, rock and jazz, yet somehow still hold onto enough of the Basque folk roots from whence it came to remain truly local music in sound, lyric and attitude. The voices are sweet, young and plaintive, and the backing ensemble supplies lots of energy on guitars (acoustic and electric), bass and drums, wqith mandolin, accordion, bagpipes and some txalaparta (supplied by another young ensemble, Oreka TX).

Press info:
Alaitz and Maider’s principal qualities are innocence, sweetness and catchy pop tunes. The duo made a big impact with their first album, ‘Alaitz eta Maider’, which became the most played and danced to disc in Basque discotheques that year. They are one of the pioneer groups in marrying ‘trikitixa’ to pop tendencies.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
