cd cover David Faulkner and Steve Turner
English and Border music for Pipes (Sargasso)

Traditional Engish folk music performed by members of Eel Grinders on Border pipes, whistle (David Faulkner) and accordion (Steve Turner) and nothing else. Eliza Carthy's review in Musical Traditions said, "Turner has a lovely touch and great instincts... David Faulkner is also an expert musician with fantastic tone... totally engrossing and certainly made me want to play along." I won't argue with a reigning princess of English folk music, but only add my own praise: this is a simply wonderful recording for anyone who loves either the English tradition or the bagpipes.

The bagpipe is an instrument of the people. It has humble origins and virtually every culture has its own version of this instrument. The music that belongs to it is diverse, from simple dance melodies to complex variation sets and improvisations; English and Border Music for Pipes represents a cross-section of these traditions. The music on this CD spans four centuries and comes from manuscript sources, it is mostly previously unrecorded. The music on English and Border Music for Pipes has a vibrancy and relevance for today, it should not be seen as an historical re-enactment it is a beginning not an end!

David Faulkner and Steve Turner have been working together for over ten years. During this time most of their collaborations have been through the group the eel grinders. The eel grinders have recorded three albums and have performed concerts and played for dance throughout Europe. Both David and Steve are leading musicians in their own fields and have developed individual playing techniques, approaches and responses to their music.

David has performed at the William Kennedy Festival of Piping (Armagh) and the North Hero Pipers' Gathering (Vermont). David is a member of pipe groups Moebius and Zephyrus and works as a community musician with Wren; a Devon based organisation working with traditional music.

Steve has recently released an album called Sideways Air with fiddle player Helena Torpy.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
