Words of the Angel
$16.99
The musicians:
Anna Maria Friman : soprano
Linn Andrea Fuglseth : soprano
Torunn Østrem Ossum : soprano
Debut of an exceptional female trio from Norway singing music from the Messe de Tournai, plus motets and songs, as well as a collection of Laude, and the contemporary piece by Ivan Moody that gives the album its title. Formed in Oslo in 1997, the trio studied intensively with the Hilliard Ensemble and shares the English group's sense of adventurousness and equal interest in early and new music. Their recording was produced by Hilliard singer John Potter.

" The voices seem disembodied, as though singing from a perspective beyond the realm of accomplishment and ego. While lacking an overall liturgical unity (naturally, these are singers not nuns) this first effort is an exciting discovery and Trio Mediaeval's treatment succeeds in comforting while it insinuates the audience (and themselves!) as accomplices to the new form of worship founded solely on offering beauty." - Steve Taylor, Hollow Ear "This is a magnificent disc, exquisitely recorded with no artificial ambience, and not to be missed." - Robert Levine, Stereophile "The disc is spellbinding. All three singers have beautiful voices - pure but not blanched, immaculate in intonation - and they sound as though they have studied not only the function of this music but its context with care. .. It is a tribute to Moody's piece, a Resurrection motet with vivid effects of dazzling light, that it can follow these without anticlimax. An exceptional coupling finely and atmospherically recorded; even those normally resistant to 'early music' should try it." - Michael Oliver, International Record Review |

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
