cd cover Lucilla Galeazzi
Amore e Acciaio (Zone di Musica)
$18.99

The title "love and steel" refers to the lyrical content of the songs presented here, about factory layoffs, famous murders, sons going off to war. But it is also a good description of the music of Lucilla Galeazzi. She has a huge heart that comes through in every note she sings, and those notes are powerful, full of the strength and wisdom of Italin roots. This 2006 recording confirms my opinion that among the firmament of Italian singers, Galeazzi still shines as bright as any.

Listen:
E' tempo dell'amore
Io sono di terra
So' stato a lavorà a Montesicuro
Ho fatto quattro nodi al fazzoletto

from the liner notes:
Love and steel are the lodestar of the studies pursued by Lucilla Galeazzi, a musician from terni who has achieved international recognition. Lucilla began to sing several of these songs (about the factory layoffs of 1953, the murder of Luigi Trastulli) more than thirty years ago, even before she decided to dedicate her life to music. These are songs that spring from the roots of Lucilla’s personal and local identity, through the history of her family, her city, her social class; songs not at all fashionable but steeped in history, all the more necessary today inasmuch as history seems to repeat itself in terni with still other layoffs and other struggles. These songs speak of the dignity and pride of a world of steel to wich we owe perhaps the most important values of everyday life. But they also speak of a religious fervour made of flesh (and Alfonso Di Nola, one of our most respected historians of religion, loved to hear Lucilla sing "La panza beata di nostro Signor" ["The blessed stomach of Our Lord"]) and of ritual. And they are songs about women who take care of others, who defend themselves and fight tooth and nail, who love (and hate), as in the new songs written by Lucilla with pop music ringing in her ears. To record such songs today, old and new together, is one way of affirming a full artistic, civil and individual maturity through the knowing sound of a voice beyond compare. - Sandro Portelli

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
