cd cover Calicanto
Labirintomare
$17.99

Labirintomare is Calicanto’s tenth CD and is released as the celebrate their 20 years of activity, 1981 – 2001. This new album is dedicated to the century-old relationship between Venice, Istria and Dalmatia. It is the fruit of various years of research and has seen the collaboration of many associations, organisations, local councils, embassies, consulates, actors, poets and the active participation of more than 25 musicians from the Adriatic and neighbouring area. With so much work and dedication behind it Labirintomare is more than a CD, it is a marvellous experience, a poetic piece of work which tells tales of the sea, boats, homesickness, breathtaking countryside, different languages and ethnic groups which are in harmony or in contrast, of bloody battles and possible tolerance.

"Calicanto use with creativity and great taste the musical and linguistic cultures of the region of Veneto.Their music offers a range of extremely sophisticated sounds in which the West meets the East, popular traditions meet culture - 11 tracks arranged with great skill." - Francesco Mirenzi - Musica! - La Repubblica

"The variety presented on Labirintomare is truly amazing, and the instrumentation and vocals consistently strong. Calicanto display not only an encyclopedic grasp of the myriad styles and rich musical history of Venice and its cultural interlocutors, but also an admirable cosmopolitanness and cultural openness. At a time when Italy is governed by a center-right coalition, which fuels a growing antipathy to Italy's new immigrants, Calicanto's embrace of cultural plurality is a refreshing tonic." - Ted Swedenburg (RootsWorld)

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
