Please note!
Most of our CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. I guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.

Search tips:
This is a small database, and you will rarely return too many listings, so keep it simple. Your search will be returned only for listings with ALL the words you enter in the serach. So if you put in Poland and jazz, you will only get those listings that meet both criteria. This is a fairly primitive search tool, so don't use punctuation like quotes or commas, and do not use limiters like and and or... they don't help. Finally, only very basic ASCII charaters are readable (like I said, it's primitive), so substitute any letters with diacritical or accent marks with a simpler letter, ie: search Boden instead of Bodén.
If you did not find what you were looking for, do not hesitate to send me an e-mail. I may be able to order it for you. Please contact me - Cliff

 Live à FIP - Lila Downs y La Misteriosa en Paris $17.99 (cdRoots# hm-wv479027)
Recorded live in May, 2009 by Radio France. Downs and and eight international musicians weave together traditional instruments including accordion, harp, clarinet and trombone with driving bass and drums, electric guitar, and Latin percussion. The songs here span six albums, from 1999 to 2008. Sometimes the sound feels like a heat-fueled road trip that crosses not just the U.S. / Mexican border, but all borders real or imagined. Downs can add acumbia rock, beat-poet style rap, or even the chirps of an iguana, taking the music to its own enigmatic world. From the carnival atmospheres to rootsy blues to traditional Mexican songs, she easily navigates the terrain of such seemingly disparate music. Listen: Cumbia de Mole and Minimum Wage.
 La Linea (Border) - Lila Downs $16.99 (cdRoots# nar-linea)
Border forges a bridge between cultures and time. It's a collection of stirring songs inspired by border life, the plight of migrant workers, and the hardships endured by indigenous peoples. Accompanied by pre-Colombian and Mexican folk instruments, Downs infuses jazz, gospel, and hip hop influences into traditional cumbias, creating powerful music in any language. The artist dedicates this recording to the Mexican migrants, to the spirits of those who have died crossing the line.
 La Sandunga - Lila Downs $16.99 (cdRoots# nar-sandunga)
Reissue of the 1997 recording by the Mexican singer and writer.
