The ensemble says: Polskas which are so similar that they seem to be related to each other are often called sister polskas. This CD consists almost only of sister polskas – different, and yet so similar that they almost flow together into a single story, one long narrative in three-time. Everything stems from the same small idea; harmonies coming from different directions to meet in a single note… It all began in fact with a few tunes by Sven, a couple of which can be found on the previous CD Luftstråk/Air Bowing. Maria wished for a few more tunes in the same style, for solo accordion. A few tunes became several tunes, and when we became a trio we suddenly had a whole collection of tunes by Sven. Together with a large element of improvisation and free association, these tunes have become one with our trio – a common expression. When we play together, we gladly play polskas – in itself not so strange as the polska is such an expressive form. A polska can lend itself to many different expressions, from driving, pulsing to still, declamatory. They sometimes acquire a personality and demand their own name. The legendary nyckelharpist Byss Calle used to give bird and animal names to polskas, for example the Lark and the Crane. On this CD we have made our own Siska(Redpoll) and Glada(Kite), but a few more inconspicuous creatures such as Skogsbässen (Finnish-Swedish for tick) have also made an appearance. Welcome dear listener, into this story in polska-time…

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
