Erika Lindgren and Cecilia Österholm
Pärlor (Tongang)
$18.99

The young fiddle and nyckelharpa duo present a fine set of 17 traditional Swedish tunes, primarily from the region of Uppland, from the works of fiddle player Viksta-Lasse and the nyckelharpa player Eric Sahlström.

The record label says:
Erika and Cecilia play Swedish traditional music. It balances an image of folkloric legend with dynamic modernity. Pervading much of it are the devilish polyrythms of polska. As elsewhere in Europe, it was the youth radicalism of the late 1960s that sparked a revival of interest in Sweden's roots music. A wave of young musicians took up the fiddle and other instruments historically used for traditional music, in particular the characteristic Swedish nyckelharpa.

Erika and Cecilia are children of the folk music revival in the late 60s and the 70s. They both have fathers that play the nyckelharpa and together with them they have travelled all over Sweden since they were children to visit and participate in folk music festivals. Sweden is a patchwork of regional styles of dance and music. The region were Erika and Cecilia come from - the northern part of county Uppland - is well known for its joyful folk music. County Uppland has been a stronghold right through centuries up until today for the nyckelharpa. Most of the music that Erika & Cecilia play is a heritage from two of the best known folk musicians in Uppland - the fiddle player Viksta-Lasse (1898-1983) and the nyckelharpa player Eric Sahlström (1912-1986). Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
