The Nordic medieval ballad heritage is transmitted here through the medium of unique recordings. This double CD features 41 ballads, several in different versions. The medieval ballad is a CD remastering of the big documentary collection published by Swedish Radio in 1962. The CD version includes a much greater number of recordings from the Swedish Radio archives, with the addition of joculary ballads. The recordings were made in the 1950s and 1960s by Swedish and Finland-Swedish traditional singers. This set includes newly written articles on the words and tunes of the medieval ballads, and a separate booklet including the words of the ballads. |
