Two young fiddlers and a guitarist/mandolist offer music of "tradition and renewal," as they call it. | "They have the ability to get to the core of a melody, be it traditional or newly composed, and bring out its essence. They do it with arrangements that eschew complexity in favor of character. It all has a lively pulse and sweep." - Peggy Latkovich, RootsWorld |
Information from the record label:
These great musicians have worthy successors in the group
Draupner, whose members hail from Järvsö and Mörtsjö. Fiddlers
Görgen Atonsson and Henning Andersson, together with guitarist
Tomas Lindberg from Uppland, had a smash breakthrough at the
Musik Direkt National Festival in 1995. This is Sweden's biggest
competition for young musicians, and Draupner took home several
prizes. Already then many people were fascinated by the boys'
vigorous and inimate ensemble playing.
Since then the boys from Hälsingland have played for the King and
Queen at the solemn opening of the Swedish Parliament and have
made quite a few appearances in Sweden and abroad. The latest
occasion was in Greenland, where Draupner represented Sweden
at the island's first folk musik festival. The fourth player, Lars Öst,
has moved to France, so when Draupner now appears with its
first CD it is as a trio. With Görgen's and Henning's energetic
fiddling, and with Tomas' striking guitar playing.
The pieces are a glorious assortment of traditional tunes from all
over Hälsingland as well as a number of the group's own
compositions. An excellent mixture of this province's impressive
music from past and present. A mixture showing us that
Hälsingland's folk music traditions are just as alive and in at least
as good hands now as in olden days.
Apart from Dalecarlia, Hälsingland is surely the Swedish province
that has fostered some of the country's most renowed folk
musicians. Prominent figures such as Jon Erik Hall, Jon Erik Öst
and Hultknäppen from nothern Hälsingland and Eric Ljung and the
Härdelin family in Delsbo. From Olle and others from the valley of
the river Ljusnan, just to mention a few...

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
