cd cover The Bluelights
Rub That Rhythm (artist release)
$14.99

They call it "Roots Music In Overdrive" and this might be a jug band in some senses, they have moved past the strict definition in this new recording, offering rock, rockabilly and R&B in the mix, as well.

Folk and blues legend Eric Von Schmidt calls them "absolutely the best since Kweskin's Jug Band in the sixties. Traditional music in overdrive."

"This Connecticut based combo has the irreverence and unselfconscious humor to carry off jug band music" - SingOut!

The band says:
The Bluelights (formerly Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights) are "the Jug Band of the 21st century." They have infused the traditional Jug Band music of the 1920’s and 1930’s with the energy of the rock ‘n’ roll music of their own generation. The Bluelights not only play the beloved Jug Band classics but also go where no Jug Band has dared to tread: pop music from the turn of the century, polka, standards and their own version of rock 'n' roll called "jugabilly." Their versatility and crowd pleasing attitude makes them appropriate for a wide variety of settings: from smoky bars to outdoor concerts to private parties. Originally founded in 1986, they continue to perform at major folk and roots music festivals throughout North America. Their first CD was released in 1996 to nationwide critical acclaim and this is their 2006 followup. The Bluelights remain inside the small group of premier jug bands performing today, maintaining the spirit, humor, creativity, and musicality of the Jug Band tradition of our American musical heritage.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
