The 2001 release by Swedish Riskspellman Mats Edén concentrates on his melodeons, although there are some splendid fiddle tunes as well. The music all comes from the playing of two influencial mastersfrom Varmland, Oskar Andersson and Alfred Magnusson. All solos, recorded direct with no overdubs, this is folk music in its purest sense: a man and his instrument in deep reverie and harmony. HIGHLY recommended for lovers of folk tunes without embellishment or artiface.
Listen:
"Rejlander fran toten" (melodeon)
"Halling fran vastra Varmland och Norge" (bordunfiol - fiddle)

Mats Eden says of the recording: The songs on this record are a selection out of the repertoire I learned from Oskar Andersson (1898-1986) and Alfred Magnusson (1890-1986), both natives of Mangskog in Värmland. I have collected the fiddle tunes, which are well suited to be played on single-row or double-row accordion, from the Värmland, Dala and Dalsland districts of Swedish songs. As a compliment to the accordion's earthy and raspy strains, I have included several fiddle tunes from Värmland, Västerdalarna and Setesdal in Norway. I don't wish to imply that I'm any sort of expert when it comes to the Norwegian Setesdalspelet; I just play it to the best of my ability and interpretation. It's a style of music that I have a great deal of feelings for. But it is primarily the accordion that is the center of focus on this record. An excellent instrument, easy to pick up after dinner, at the beach, for a dance or when putting the children to bed. On top of which, it has a dangerous effect on everything else you do in life. Once you've gotten a taste for the keys, there's no turning back. They've made an impression. Help yourselves.
