My introduction to Morten Alfred Høirup was via this band, who was performing at a festival in Finland I attended back in the early 1990s. Their mix of Nordic and North American tunes and ideas was a perfect decompression for me on my first journey to northern Europe, and helped me find the commonality in the music that enabled me to move deeper into the local stuff over the ensuing years.
On this collection the swinging Nordic American folk band has included some of their best early recordings. Listen to the North American and Scandinavian tunes played by American fiddler Ruthie Dornfeld, Danish guitar player Morten Alfred Høirup and Norwegian bass player Anders Hofset and you will feel the magic.
